Many people consider dairy a great protein and calcium source, but our bodies actually utilize diary as a milk sugar, known as lactose. In order to digest dairy products, our bodies must have the enzyme, lactase. Nearly all adults have an inability to digest dairy products because they lack this enzyme to break down dairy, which is called lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerant individuals will begin to notice the effects after the age of 20 when our bodies begin to produce less of the enzyme lactase. Signs and symptoms of this can include bloating, cramping, gas, irritable bowel syndrome, reflux and other conditions that will result in poor health.

What should you use instead? Try unsweetened almond milk, or any other nut milk instead of dairy.
