Vitamin D is one of the most common vitamin deficiency. Known as the "sunshine vitamin," your body converts sunlight into vitamin D after it exposed to skin.  However, it is important to get your vitamin D from food sources in order to prevent the risks of developing skin cancer from the sun. Very few foods naturally have vitamin D, among the few are mushrooms, salmon, fortified milk (almond/soy), whole grain fortified cereals, tuna, and eggs. Vitamin D is needed for bone health, and helps with absorption of calcium. Your needs may be higher if you have Crohn’s disease or Celiac disease.
